    Brass

I started learning Cornet at the age of 12, originally taught by my dad, before joining my local brass band and school ensembles. I  fell in love with playing the Cornet and soon moved onto Trumpet. I joined as many bands and ensembles as I could and I took both GCSE and A-Level music before going to the University of Chichester to study BA Music with Teaching, and MA music performance. I left University in 2018 and I have been teaching brass instruments ever since! I teach one-to-one and small group lessons to children in many of the schools in Worthing, offering lessons to any child in year 3 and above. Every child taught by me will have the opportunity to have a free taster session before signing up for lessons in order to have the chance to try out all the instruments on offer and choose the right one for them!

    Instruments I teach:

Trumpet, Cornet, Tenor Horn, Baritone, Trombone, Tuba

    Violin

I was educated in Worthing and studied violin and piano at the Royal Academy of Music and then at Middlesex Polytechnic.

I began teaching class music in a secondary school before taking up a peripatetic violin teaching role in local schools.

I am passionate about teaching young children to enjoy music and over 30 years I have taught thousands of children to enjoy music through the violin, piano, and recorder. I also particularly enjoy mentoring new teachers, directing ensembles in music centres and teaching music within a whole class instrumental setting. Together with a wide variety of concerts, management roles and performing opportunities, including several tours abroad I have had a varied, challenging and hugely enjoyable career so far.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband and two grown up daughters, keeping fit, and growing vegetables on my allotment. I play professionally with local orchestras and in a string quartet for weddings, parties and corporate events. I  am also a trustee of Worthing Symphony Orchestra.

I have taught at Broadwater C of E School for over 27 years and and for the last 4 years, I have also taught Key Stage 2 classroom music.

In year 3, we learn the recorder which is a brilliant starting instrument, then we move onto violin in year 4. In years 5 and 6, we cover all musical elements including song writing, composition, creativity, performance and playing our very wide variety of percussion.

My daughters attended the school and I thoroughly enjoy being an included member of the Broadwater family.

    Violin

Hi, I'm Erin and I have been teaching violin for over 20 yrs in a variety of settings. I have experience of teaching small groups, individuals and even whole classes of violins! With the ethos that playing an instrument should be enjoyable, students learn through a variety of media including, singing, games and physical movement. I offer lessons to suit each individual student's needs and believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument.

‘…Give your child (or yourself!) the gift of music - it is a gift that will last a lifetime!…’

Lessons are offered in small groups or on an individual basis.

    Piano and Keyboard

I started working life as Key Stage one teacher for five years before raising a family in France. After continuing professional training as a pianist I founded Helen Phillips Piano in 2006, both as freelance piano teacher and performing artist alongside ten years work with the ABRSM exam board and manager for the Chichester Festival of Music Dance and Speech, and more recently consultancy work as a child cognitive specialist for leading global toy manufacturing companies.

I am an Associate Tutor for West Sussex Music and enjoy teaching a large student base in many schools in the Worthing area and through home-visit lessons after school. Every learner is unique and diversifying my approach to motivate and inspire is a challenge that continually fascinates me.

Piano and Keyboard lessons are available at Broadwater during the school day.

Supportive, fun and tailored to your child’s needs.
