    School Council

School Council, who are democratically voted in by their peers, meet every Thursday lunchtime with an agenda created by the school's leadership team, teachers and the pupils themselves. Every junior class has a school council representative and a deputy if a member is unable to fulfil their duties.

    Charities

Over the past two years, through fundraising events, the school council at Broadwater Primary school have amazingly raised over £10,000 for a variety of charities.

School council discussed and chose the following charities to support this academic year:

    • Friends of Mombasa Children

    • The Anti-Bullying Alliance

    • Mencap

    • Guild Care

    • MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship)

    • Children in Need

    Spring Term 2025

The School Council had another exciting and impactful term, working on projects that brought our school and wider community together. Here’s what we achieved:

Time Capsule Project for Merriman Grange
We were invited to take part in a special time capsule project for the new Merriman Grange care home in Broadwater.  School Council gathered ideas from classes, compiled a list of meaningful items, and collected them for the capsule. We then attended the care home’s open day to help bury the time capsule, which will be opened in 50 years!

    Glow for GuildCare
To support the charity GuildCare, we organised a 'Glow for GuildCare' fundraiser, where everyone wore bright clothes to school. We also decorated money boxes to collect donations, raising an amazing £839!

    World Book Day Competition Judges
One of our favourite roles this term was being judges for the World Book Day competition! We carefully looked through all the creative entries and helped decide the winners, celebrating the amazing efforts of our classmates.

    Autumn Term 2024

During the Autumn term, the School Council made a positive impact on our school community. Here are some of the fantastic things we achieved:

    • Updating the School Rules: After gathering feedback, we worked together to refresh the school rules, making sure they reflect our shared values.
    • Anti-Bullying Week Awareness: To support Anti-Bullying Week, we created an informative poster to promote kindness and respect and shared this message throughout the school.
    • Odd Socks Day: We encouraged everyone to take part in Odd Socks Day, speaking to classes about how it’s a fun way to celebrate uniqueness and inclusion.
    • Children in Need Fundraising: We raised an incredible £368 for Children in Need by wearing spotty clothes and accessories.
    • Judging 'Broadwater’s Got Talent': One of the highlights of the term for School Council was being part of the judging panel of BGT!
